Six Unique Central Florida Activities in Central Florida.
6 Unique Central Florida Activities
If you’re anything like me, you are constantly looking for something new and unique to do close to home. I have gathered together a few of my favorite things I’ve found in my 30 years in Central Florida. Feel free to comment if you have more to share!
Bioluminescent Kayak Tour
Many people think you must make the trip to Puerto Rico or The Maldives to see bioluminescence in the water; however, you can see them right here in Florida! If you’re not familiar with bioluminescence, it is essentially an emission of light by a living organism. This was seriously one of the coolest things I’ve done. When your paddle hits the water, or you drag a net through the water, you can see all these flashes of light. It’s like an underwater light show! I recommend bringing plenty of bug spray.
Weeki Wachee Springs State Park
Imagine how excited your kids would be if you told them you were going to see real-life mermaids. Well they can do just that at Weeki Wachee! The mermaids put on a great show in the submerged auditorium, 365 days a year. While the mermaids are the most unique part of this state park, there are a multitude of other things to keep you busy. Buccaneer Bay is natural spring water park. There are water slides and a white-sand beach to lay out and enjoy the sun. You can also walk the trails, kayak, paddleboard, or take a river boat cruise.
Celebration is a unique community right outside Orlando and they offer so many fun things year-round. If you have time to go before Christmas, you’ll get to see the outstanding show of lights the residents provide. You could also catch it snowing in Florida! Celebration is fun even if you don’t make it around the holidays though and it’s a very dog friendly community. Can’t forget to mention the great food options they have in their cute little town. Be on the lookout for a dog festival, a huge yard sale, an egg hunt, and a car festival.
MLB Spring Training Game
Nothing beats a beautiful Spring Florida day, having a cold beverage, eating a hotdog and peanuts, and cheering on the home team. Tickets are generally cheaper than regular season and players are much more willing to give out autographs. Spring training games are great for dates, hanging with friends, or taking the whole family. I like to get a fun group together, take some towels, and get lawn seats.
The Lakeridge Winery & Vineyards
This is the perfect place to go for a day date or a fun day out with friends. Located in Clermont, it’s location makes it easy to get to from most areas in Central Florida. Complimentary Tours and Wine Tasting are available 7 days a week. It helps that Lakeridge makes some delicious wines! Don’t worry, you can find their wine in Publix as well!
Bok Tower Gardens
Located in Lake Wales, Bok Tower offers many beautiful sights including, the Singing Tower, gardens, nature trails, the Pinewood Estate, and a visitor center. You can enjoy food from the small café or bring your own picnic lunch. I went on a day date and had lunch in the café, then walked the trails. They even had someone playing the harp the day I was there! Keep an eye on their events calendar because they have year-round events for the whole family.
